Mowbray impressed by fringe stars

The Parkhead side will host the first leg on July 28/29, with the return game played on August 4/5. In preparation, the Hoops play Cardiff in a friendly in Wales next Wednesday night before appearing in the Wembley Cup next weekend. Mowbray's men face Al Ahly at Wembley on the Friday before taking on Tottenham on Sunday, their final preparations before the visit of Dinamo. Striker Chris Killen, who was loaned out to Norwich last season, caught the eye in Australia last week with a brace in a 3-0 friendly win over Brisbane Roar while Koki Mizuno, who appeared fleetingly last season, scored the other. Other players like Willo Flood, Paddy McCourt, Paul Caddis and Simon Ferry will get chances to shine before the serious stuff begins. "Generally, everyone has trained very well," the former Hibernian and West Brom boss said. "I've purposely kept the group together apart from when we went to Australia with about 20 of them. "We have kept them all together so we can assess the younger players and the fringe players and on the whole I have been impressed by them. "Sometimes young players just need an opportunity. "There are one or two games coming up in which the players will get an opportunity so we will wait and see." Mowbray is aware of how tough a task his side face against Dinamo, who lie seventh in the Premier Liga after 13 games. "Russian teams are very fit, methodical and organised and I'm sure they will give us a tough test," said Mowbray. "But I'm sure they are looking at the draw and thinking it is a big ask for them. "We are happy to take whoever it was and I don't have any preferences in cup draws. We are not in the industry of making excuses. "In a strange sort of way, while you would like to play the second game of the tie at home, after the travelling we have done it is a benefit that we will be at home first."
