Mjallby has good news on Wilson

Celtic assistant manager Johan Mjallby believes stopper Kelvin Wilson is ready to return for the crunch Europa League Group I clash with Udinese in Italy on Thursday night.

Wilson, back from an Achilles injury, has not played since the League Cup win at Ross County on September 21 but may be called into action due to injuries to Glenn Loovens and Adam Matthews.

Speaking before Celtic flew out from Glasgow, the former Celtic defender said: "He is in contention, that's why he is travelling."

Mjallby added: "I know he has been out for some time but he had a bounce game last week and mentally he is ready.

"Adam Matthews, Kris Commons and Joe Ledley are out.

"The good news is that Emilio Izaguirre is fit and travelling with us but to too early for him to play. Glenn Loovens is unfortunately out for another 10 days."

Mjallby is confident that the former Cardiff defender, who sustained a hamstring injury against Hearts on Saturday, will be back for the Old Firm game at Celtic Park on December 28.

He said: "Glenn has so much experience anyway, his hamstring injury is flaring up but with his experience he is probably going to be in contention."

Udinese - second in Serie A only on goal difference to Juventus - lead Celtic by three points but should the Italian team lose, the Parkhead men would go through by virtue of their head-to-head record.

Mjallby recognised the task ahead, saying, "They are doing extremely well in Serie A but we have a chance to go through. Udinese are favourites, they are at home, doing superbly well domestically but we are looking forward to it."
