McManus keen for repeat

Celtic captain Stephen McManus has admitted he found the extra responsibility difficult to cope with last season.

Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan turned to the 25-year-old defender to be his new captain last summer and it turned out to be a tough campaign for the player and the club.

McManus told Celtic's official website: "It was a challenging year, but I just tried to deal with things as best as I possibly could.

"There are going to be additional responsibilities. There will be difficult times when you're asked to step up and speak on behalf of the club or players, but it's something that you maybe expect as captain of this club.

"You have to handle it and that's what I tried to do. I just tried to do as best as I possibly could and that's what I'll do in the future.

"Given what happened last year, that made it all the more important that we won the league and getting that title at the end of the campaign was the main thing for me.

"It was great. It was what we had to do and, with that in mind, I've enjoyed every minute of being the captain of this club. I just hope we'll be able to do it again this year."
