McGhee not interested in Hoops job

McGhee was interviewed for the Parkhead job prior to Tony Mowbray's appointment nine months ago and was immediately linked with the role following the latter's departure on Thursday.[LNB]But the former Celtic striker insists he would have no interest in returning to the club, with Scotland set to lose its automatic Champions League spot due to the poor performances of its teams in Europe.[LNB]"It's a job that, even in the year or so that I was considered for the job, has changed," said McGhee, who reckons his old side will struggle to attract a manager of calibre.[LNB]"With the change in the qualification for the Champions League next year, Celtic - like most other jobs in Scotland - has become a domestic job, with the outside chance of Champions League football.[LNB]"When I was considering the job last year, the big attraction was the Champions League, and that's probably not going to be there now - the actual Champions League stage - for some time."[LNB]McGhee, whose Dons side host St Mirren in the Scottish Premier League on Saturday, added: "My chance was last year, and they gave it to Tony.[LNB]"I'm here now and I'm committed to being here.[LNB]"I'm not quite sure where Celtic are going to go in terms of management but that's their problem.[LNB]"My problem is beating St Mirren on Saturday and that's difficult enough."[LNB]Despite Aberdeen having struggled since he joined them from Motherwell last summer, McGhee was not surprised to see his name linked with Celtic again.[LNB]"Anyone in the game knows the realities of what's happened since I've been in the football club and have taken that into account," said McGhee, citing the financial constraints he has operated under.[LNB]Like Mowbray, McGhee has failed to live up to expectations following his appointment.[LNB]But he added: "Tony Mowbray's gone in there, he's had a lot of money to spend, he's had a lot of opportunity to make the changes that he wanted to make.[LNB]"I've had no money to spend. In fact, since I've been here it's been cut back because of the loss of Lee Miller.[LNB]"Where we've arrived is similar in the sense that there's a bit of dissatisfaction and results have been poorer than people might have expected.[LNB]"But the way we've arrived here has been by totally different means."[LNB]Failure to beat St Mirren on Saturday will see Aberdeen move within one match of equalling a club record 13 games without a win.[LNB]But stopping the rot will not be easy against a Buddies side whose 4-0 victory over Celtic on Wednesday night was the final nail in Mowbray's coffin.[LNB]"St Mirren will be coming here in a great frame of mind," said McGhee.[LNB]"Obviously, the result was a surprise to everyone but I expected them to give Celtic a difficult game."[LNB]McGhee also confirmed he would consider a summer move for former Dons midfielder Jamie Smith, who quit Pittodrie for the Colorado Rapids at the end of last season and has expressed interest in a return.[LNB]"He is a player who we know is well good enough to help us," McGhee said.[LNB][LNB]
