McBride: I didn't score against Gers

McBride broke his leg in season 1966-67 and missed out on Jock Stein's side making history when they became the first British side to win the European Cup by beating Inter Milan 2-1 in Lisbon.[LNB]However, a remarkable 86 goals in 94 games for the Hoops helped earn him the tag of the 12th Lisbon Lion.[LNB]The former Motherwell and Hibernian striker was at Hampden to help publicise Sunday's Old Firm Co-operative Insurance Cup final, having twice won the League Cup as a player.[LNB]And McBride appeared to be still somewhat surprised by his scoring record against Rangers while at Parkhead.[LNB]He said: "I had eight games against Rangers, six victories, one draw and one defeat and I never scored in any of them.[LNB]"We had a 5-1 victory, a 4-0, a 2-0, and I still didn't score.[LNB]"When I'm asked about it, I always say I didn't need to score in those days but it would have been nice.[LNB]"I can always say I had a bit of success against Rangers, in regards results.[LNB]"And I managed to score against Rangers on a regular basis for the other teams I played for.[LNB]"But I only scored for Celtic against Rangers in a reserve game at Ibrox.[LNB]"Kenny Dalglish, Lou Macari and myself scored in a 3-0 win, that was the only time."[LNB]McBride was also at something of a loss to explain why Jan Venegoor of Hesselink and Georgios Samaras are struggling so badly for Celtic at the moment.[LNB]The depressing statistic that the Parkhead faithful and boss Gordon Strachan has to digest ahead of the final is that the two players have failed to score in the last 25 games between them.[LNB]"Samaras and Vennegoor of Hesselink are having a bad spell but that can turn at any time," McBride said.[LNB]"There's not a footballer in the game that hasn't gone through a lean spell, although theirs is a bit more lengthy than we would like to see.[LNB]"Both of them seem to have had bad injuries and, make no mistake, as you get back to fitness, you are not as sharp as before you got injured.[LNB]"But Vennegoor of Hesselink should have scored with a late header against St Mirren in the cup game.[LNB]"If he had got that header in then it would have made a hell of a difference.[LNB]"But I hope one of them gets a goal on Sunday; they will be on the road again."[LNB][LNB]
