McBride: Bhoys should stay calm

The champions trail the Ibrox club for the first time in four months by dint of the Light Blues' superior goal difference.[LNB]Celtic have scored just three goals in their last five games - two of them against Second Division side Queen's Park in the Homecoming Scottish Cup.[LNB]Scott McDonald, who took his tally to 13 for the season at Fir Park with his fifth goal in seven matches, was absolved of any blame by Strachan as he called for his side to start converting their chances.[LNB]Georgios Samaras has notched 14 but was last on the scoresheet nine games ago while Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, who also started in a three-pronged attack at Motherwell, has notched only two in an injury-hit season.[LNB]McBride has all the credentials needed to speak about scoring for the Parkhead club, having netted 86 times in 94 appearances in the mid-1960s under Jock Stein.[LNB]The former Motherwell and Hibernian striker, who works in the hospitality suites at Celtic Park on match days, is confident that the goals will return.[LNB]"Scott McDonald seems to have hit some form but he needs some help from the other two strikers and other players in the team," McBride said.[LNB]"What I have noticed is that the strikers aren't hitting the target and if you don't hit the target then you won't score - even if there is no keeper in.[LNB]"But look at Kenny Miller of Rangers. Lots of people at Parkhead didn't like him when he was at Celtic but I was a fan.[LNB]"They were moaning about him at Ibrox because he went ages without scoring but he has returned to the goal trail in recent games.[LNB]"So the Celtic players could bounce back.[LNB]"It won't be due to a lack of practice and Gordon Strachan will be doing a number of things with them.[LNB]"But I think it will come, form doesn't go away forever.[LNB]"It would only take a couple of strikes on target and that could turn the tide.[LNB]"Celtic are a good team and they are level on points with Rangers, it's not lost yet.[LNB]"They could win the last Old Firm game at Ibrox and win the league again."[LNB]Despite his remarkable prowess in front of goal, McBride remembers the pressures of failing to find the net for the Parkhead club.[LNB]He said: "When I was playing at Motherwell and scoring goals for fun, I used to go a masseur from Shettleston called Mr Chester.[LNB]"When I first joined Celtic Jock Stein told me that it wouldn't look good for the club if I was using outside help so I stopped - even though it was me who was paying for it.[LNB]"I struggled to score at first and big Jock said to me , 'Joe, they are all out there looking for you to score.' I said 'So am I!'[LNB]"After another game without a goal he said to me, 'Is that wee guy any good?'[LNB]"I said yes and so he allowed me to go back and use him. I think I scored a hat-trick in the next game.[LNB]"It was just something that suited me.[LNB]"But all the players these days get all that sort of stuff - and they don't have to pay for it."[LNB][LNB] Next Celtic Manager.
