Maloney is the man

New captain Shaun Maloney did not let Neil Lennon down Neil Lennon has hailed the influence of his new captain Shaun Maloney after he led the side to a  2-1 victory win Dundee United. Some were surprised to see the captain's armband on Maloney in the absence of Scott Brown, who is unlikely to return until mid-December after breaking a bone in his foot. However, the 27-year-old helped Celtic produce a stirring display at Tannadice as Gary Hooper's late second goal allowed them to continue on their 100% league run ahead of Sunday's Old Firm derby at Parkhead. And Lennon is happy for Maloney to lead the team out in the weeks ahead. Lennon said: "It was a fantastic performance and it was a great attitude shown by Shaun and all of the players. My staff talked about it on Saturday night and we just thought Shaun knows the club so well and he's back to what we think is more or less his best. The maturity he's shown this year and the respect the players have for him made him the best choice. He's came through the ranks and he knows everything about the club, and his performances have merited it this year. I wouldn't like to chop and change it so Shaun will remain captain for now. You need to be able to take the game by the scruff of the neck at times and guide the team through difficult situations and Shaun showed he can do that on Sunday."
