Celtic striker Shaun Maloney is delighted to have been offered a new three-year deal by the runaway SPL leaders.
The 21-year-old has struggled to make a first-team impact due to the presence of Henrik Larsson, Chris Sutton and John Hartson, but believes that he will get his chance to impress in the near future.
He said: "When the club came to see me about this and I spoke to the manager who showed confidence in me, I couldn't turn it down.
"The prize of playing every week was such a big reward that I wouldn't want to let that go without feeling I'd given it my best shot.
"My job is to try to convince the manager he doesn't need to go and buy a straight-off replacement for Henrik and if he does, it's my job to try to impress him enough that he gives me a starting berth up front.
"I can't complain about not playing. Obviously the manager likes playing with a big guy and a smaller guy and with Henrik playing as well as he is you can't have too many complaints.
"You just have to hope that in time you can break into the team."
