Lennon fears McGeady will leave
15 Jul 2010 - 10:36:48
Celtic manager Neil Lennon fears that Aiden McGeady will leave the club before the transfer window closes at the end of next month.
However, the former Leicester City midfielder has allayed rumours suggesting the winger did not team up with the rest of the squad for the tour of North America because he was concentrating on finalising a transfer.
Aston Villa are believed to be keen to sign McGeady, and Lennon admitted to the Daily Record: "Aiden hasn't said to me he wants to leave in so many words. But that vibe came from his side of things.
"I know there are conspiracy theories but it is a genuine injury. He picked it up in a bounce game on Saturday behind closed doors. He came off and was feeling sore.
"We left it until Sunday to see if it settled and it didn't, so we felt that if we were looking at ten days, the travelling would make it worse.
"He had a scan on Monday but it was pointless bringing him here if he wasn't going to train and play."
Meanwhile, the Bhoys are being linked with Coventry City's Kieren Westwood and Andy Lonergan of Preston North End as they search for a replacement goalkeeper for Artur Boruc.
