Lennon defends Samaras deal
Gaffer insists decision to extend contract was right one
Neil Lennon yesterday insisted that the decision to award Georgios Samaras a three year deal was the right one. Speaking at the club's AGM, the gaffer insisted he was right in keeping the Greek striker at the club for another three years.
Samaras has come in for heavy criticism this season and has had a poor start to the season, yet to score in all competitions.
Lennon is aware of the pressure he is under and appreciated the fact that ultimately the decision to place faith in Samaras could cost him his job.
He said: "He is a player who could ultimately get me the sack. I am as much to blame as him for his performances but I can't give up on him.
However, Lennon stands by his decision and insists that he has no regrets.
"I don't regret it. The alternative was to let him leave for nothing. There was a lot of interest in him from other clubs but he wanted to stay here and prove himself."
