Lennon adds Murphy to squad

16 Jul 2010 - 16:10:23

Celtic have completed the signing of Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy on a three-year contract.

The 27-year-old joins fellow Bhoys newcomers Charlie Mulgrew, Joe Ledley and Cha Du-Ri in Neil Lennon's squad ahead of the new Scottish Premier League season.

Murphy, who has won nine international caps for Republic of Ireland, started his career with Waterford United, before making the switch to the Black Cats in 2005.

He found himself out of Steve Bruce's first-team plans with Darren Bent, Kenwyne Jones and Fraizer Campbell ahead of him in the pecking order.

Now, following loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town last term, he has now decided to join up with the Scottish giants after making 110 appearances and scoring 14 goals for the Wearside outfit.
