Gaffer calls for defensive improvements

Neil Lennon has insisted his defense must improve drastically against French side Rennes in France tonight. The Hoops record on the road in Europe doesn't make pleasant reading and that poor form has continued this season, with consecutive defeats in Switzerland and Spain and the concession of early goals have been their downfall on both occasions.

He insisted his defense must recover from the first-half horror show against Kilmarnock at the weekend in which they gave Killie a three-goal start going in at the break.

"We have to defend better than we did on Saturday and I know Rennes are an excellent side.

He continued by claiming that his side's poor away record wont have any effect on his players going into this tough Group I encounter.

"It's not a real issue for me. It is a different team from over the years. But it's not good and the best thing to do about a poor record is break it and we are looking for a good performance from the players."
