Lennon wants better from Celtic

eil Lennon's first chance to see if his Celtic side have kicked on from last season comes when they travel to Hibernian in the SPL on Sunday.[LNB] The Hoops lost out to Rangers by one point in a pulsating SPL title race and were also beaten in the final of the Co-operative Insurance Cup by their Old Firm rivals.[LNB]Lennon's men, however, ended the season on a high by capturing the Scottish Cup in their Hampden win over Motherwell.[LNB]And after adding Adam Matthews, Kelvin Wilson and Victor Wanyama to his squad in the summer, the Parkhead boss is keen to see how his squad fare in their quest to improve on last season.[LNB]He said: "I think the players grew as the season progressed but it is hard to gauge whether or not they have taken another step in the close season.[LNB]"Once we have three or four games we will have a good idea of where we are heading.[LNB]"The expectation level might be higher because of what we achieved last year, probably not many people expected it.[LNB]"We ran Rangers so close and got to two cup finals but we feel we have a talented group of players and we want to go one better.[LNB]"I am grateful for the opportunity to carry on as manager, first and foremost, and looking forward to the challenge of trying to improve the team.[LNB]"I want to try to get more consistency, play better football, score more goals, keep more cleans sheets and accumulate more points.[LNB]"It is the challenge ahead of us and I think Europe is also important to us, not just to myself but the players and the club.[LNB]"So we have a lot of incentives going in to the new season."[LNB]The early start to the SPL season coincides with the implementation of the Scottish Football Association's new disciplinary processes which chief executive Stewart Regan claims will be "speedy, transparent and robust".[LNB]Lennon welcomed the move by the SFA within those new procedures to try to take pressure off referees by threatening sanctions against managers who comment on officials before games.[LNB]He said: "I am quite comfortable with that - it will probably stop you lot (the media) asking me questions about referees and getting me in to trouble.[LNB]"We had a meeting with the referees on Friday and there were a few points that they made pretty clear.[LNB]"We know what you can and can't do and we welcome that because it makes all the wrong headlines anyway."
