Killen sensing his Celtic chance

The New Zealand international was so far out of the Parkhead picture last season he was farmed out on loan to Norwich in January only to return weeks later after picking up an injury. Speculation Killen could leave Celtic Park again in the summer came to nothing, although the early season matches in which he was restricted to substitute appearances did not appear to offer much hope. However, with Marc-Antoine Fortune out with medial ligament damage and Georgios Samaras sidelined by a shin injury, he was handed his first start of the season alongside Scott McDonald in Sunday's SPL clash against Hearts at Parkhead. Following Suso's early opener for the visitors, Killen, 27, grabbed the crucial equaliser - his first goal for Celtic in almost two years - before Glenn Loovens headed in a dramatic injury-time winner. In a live radio interview immediately afterwards, Celtic boss Tony Mowbray, in his excitement, let slip a four-letter word when praising Killen for his attitude The former Hibernian player is certain to lead the line in the Hoops' Co-Operative Insurance Cup third-round tie at Falkirk on Wednesday night and is looking to impress his manager once again. He said: "It's tough when you are coming on for 10 or 15 minutes here and there. "You have to make a massive impact to try and get your jersey. "So starts are important for all players, me especially. "Sunday was a good day all round. We got the result, which was the main thing, and, from a personal point of view, it was great to score at home. "There was no point in the summer where I said I wanted to leave and I'm happy to be here. "I want to be playing week in, week out and, if I carry on scoring goals, there's no reason why I shouldn't be playing but it does come down to the manager. "But it's obviously nice to have the backing of the manager, he knows what I can do and that gives you the confidence."
