Hoops recover from Champions League blow and early goal to see off St Johnstone

Celtic took full advantage of Hearts' slip at Hamilton to go top of the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Ronny Deila's side failed to make the Champions League group stages in midweek when they lost to Malmo in Sweden, and there was more Hoops despair against St Johnstone when Dedryck Boyata put through his own net after 11 minutes.

But Leigh Griffiths levelled with a deflected strike seven minutes later for his eighth of the season and Tom Rogic (45) and Charlie Mulgrew (67) saw Celtic complete a 3-1 home victory which takes them a point clear of Hearts and Aberdeen.

Ten-man Hearts were on the wrong end of a five-goal thriller at Hamilton as their 100 per cent start to the league campaign came to a painful end.

Gramoz Kurtaj put Hamilton ahead close to half-time but Hearts recovered and went ahead through Billy King and Callum Paterson.

But Paterson's 76th-minute dismissal proved the turning point as Ali Crawford and Jesus Garcia Tena struck for an unlikely 3-2 Accies victory.

Aberdeen, who have a game in hand on Celtic and Hearts, made it five wins out of five at the start of a league season for just the second time in their history with a 2-0 success at Partick.

Adam Rooney ignored claims for handball to open the scoring after 49 minutes and Kenny McLean added a second nine minutes later to secure the three points for the high-flying Dons.

Ross County consolidated their place in the top five with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Dundee United.

Liam Boyce (17) converted from the penalty spot and Andrew Davies doubled County's lead 11 minutes later when he fired home from Jonathan Franks' corner.

Sean Dillon's 30-yard effort gave the visitors hope in the second half but United's late pressure counted for nothing as they failed to produce an equaliser.

Inverness were denied their first league win of the season as Dundee's Kane Hemmings hit an injury-time equaliser at Dens Park.

David Raven struck on the hour and it seemed as though John Hughes' side would end their wait for a victory at the sixth attempt when Inverness' Welsh goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams saved Greg Stewart's 83rd-minute penalty.

But Hemmings struck in the dying seconds to prevent a third straight defeat for Paul Hartley's side.

Kilmarnock remain rooted to the bottom of the table after Louis Moult's early penalty ended Motherwell's four-match losing run.

Moult won the 13th-minute spot-kick after tangling with Mark O'Hara and picked himself up to convert coolly from the spot.

Motherwell's victory moves them up to seventh spot but poor Killie, who created few openings in a game of few chances, now only have two points from six games.
