Hoops defender laments Brown ban

Midfield dynamo Brown has been ruled out of the biggest match of the season through suspension after the SPL confirmed it would be played on May 9. Full-back Wilson, who has been out for a month after undergoing double hernia surgery, said in the Scottish Sun: "It's a big blow to have Scott missing from the Old Firm game. "He's been one of our top players this season, a real driving force. He's a crucial player for us and not to have him in that game is a hard one to take. "We've got a big squad, guys who can come in and do a job. Paul Hartley, Marc Crosas and Massimo Donati - we've got players who can cover. But there's no one quite like Broony. He brings so much to the team, so much desire and power in midfield. "We'll definitely miss him but the other guys will fill in. They might not be doing quite the same job, but they are still up for it." Brown has been handed a two-match ban for picking up 22 yellow cards in the last two seasons and Wilson hit out at the Scottish Football Association's disciplinary procedures. He added: "Scott loves playing in the big games, absolutely relishes it. But we all knew Broony was going to get suspended again because of the way he plays, it was only a matter of time. "It's maybe unfair he's been punished for what happened last season. That's a crazy rule, but we all know there are plenty of crazy rules in the SPL." Meanwhile, Celtic first-team coach Neil Lennon has urged captain Stephen McManus to be completely honest about his injury problems. Manager Gordon Strachan accused McManus of being too brave for his own good after withdrawing the defender at half-time of Saturday's 1-1 draw at Hearts. McManus has been troubled by an ankle problem for some weeks and Lennon warned him not to think about playing in this weekend's clash with Aberdeen if he is not fit and able. "Stephen will get treatment this week and we will see how he is on Thursday and Friday," Lennon told Celtic TV. "He will have to be honest with us and say whether or not he can play. We need him to be at least 90% fit for a difficult game with Aberdeen. "I understand where he is coming from because, as a player, you want to play every game. "That's just the character he is and that can be detrimental to yourself and the team. He is too brave for his own good. "Possibly, on reflection, he would admit that he shouldn't have started at Hearts."
