Harper has no thoughts of Toon exit

Veteran Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper insists he has no intention of quitting St James' Park this summer.

The goalkeeper has been linked with Celtic after Artur Boruc's move to Fiorentina, with boss Neil Lennon thought to be hunting a replacement.

But Harper, who was forced to play understudy to Shay Given for several years at Newcastle, is adamant that he will not be ignoring the chance to play regularly in the Premier League.

"I have waited years for the opportunity of first-team football with Newcastle United in the Premier League so I'm not going to turn my back on it now," said the 35-year-old.

"I still have a couple of years left on my contract and I am looking to play on for as long as possible.

"I've only played around 200 first-team games and, if I can get that up to 400 hundred that would be fantastic."
