Growing pains for 'young' Bhoy Art

Following the departures of a number of veteran players this summer, only Barry Robson is senior to Boruc in the Parkhead dressing room. The 29-year-old goalkeeper confesses to being a "big kid", with the Pole having landed himself in hot water in the past for his behaviour both on and off the field. But he is now ready to assume the role of elder statesman in manager Tony Mowbray's new-look side. "Maybe I am old now," said Boruc, who was shocked to learn his place in the pecking order after less than four years at the club. "But mentally, I am still very young. Somebody once said that you will never grow up if you don't want to and I think that's true. Besides, footballers are big kids to be honest and that's the way I am as well." However, Boruc appreciates the importance of senior professionals taking young players under their wings. The former Legia Warsaw star added in Celtic View: "I got a lot of help from older players when I first started out at Legia and when I came to Celtic, Stan (Stiliyan) Petrov helped me a lot as well. "Even though he wasn't much older than me, he gave me a lot of advice that was very useful. Maybe that's something I will have to think about this season." But Boruc's main focus will be on holding on to his number one jersey following the arrival of fellow Pole and good friend Lukasz Zaluska from Dundee United. He does not expect to be an automatic pick under new manager Mowbray. "It's totally different just now in that it's a big change for every single player," Boruc said. "There's a new manager, new coaches and everybody is trying to impress the new manager. "I am the same. I need to work hard and I am really enjoying it. The manager has been great. He is a very good guy, very straight and open and you can talk to him, which is important."
