Dream come true for Izaguirre

Waiting a long time for something good to happen makes it all the more enjoyable Emilio Izaguirre has been waiting his whole career for a move to a big club and in signing for Celtic he feels he has achieved his ambition. The 23-year-old Honduras left-back has been keen on a move to British football for year and nearly made it when he was on trial at Ipswich back in 2008, but problems with a work permit meant a move could not be completed. There was a chance for him to move from Motagua to Wigan this year but that fell through as well. Izaguirre could make his debut with the trip to Motherwell tomorrow, He said: "Coming to a club like Celtic is a dream come true at last for me. I will put the effort in during training every day and play each match here as if it's the last game of my life. There was a chance I could have joined Wigan, but it was only going to be possible if (existing left-back) Maynor Figueroa left and he didn't. It's true that when I was younger I went to Ipswich, but I couldn't get the work permit at that time." Izaguirre, who played in the World Cup for Honduras, made a special trip to Guatemala last week to ensure the necessary paperwork would not present a problem with a transfer to Celtic. He went on: "Celtic showed a lot of interest in me and I'm delighted to be here. I think any player in the world would be happy to arrive at a club as big as this. I know the demands of playing for Celtic, that you have to win every game, but I'm ready for that. The Scottish game has a fast pace to it, but I think that will suit my own style of game. I feel fit enough to start on Sunday if the manager selects me." Izaguirre was stunned that Celtic dropped out of European football after losing 4-0 away to Utrecht that denied them qualification to the Europa League proper despite going to Holland with a two-goal lead. He said: "I couldn't really believe what happened on Thursday night. I would never have thought it could happen. Of course European football was an attraction to me coming here so it's disappointing, but I have many more years here for that."
