Confidence took a knock but still strong

The treble is not going to happen this year but lessons learnt could pay dividends later. Despite yesterday's result, winger Kris Commons remains confident of winning the league title this season, but only if lessons are learned from the Co-operative Insurance Cup final.  Nikica Jelavic's winner gave Rangers a dramatic extra-time win after team-mate Steve Davis' first-half opener had been levelled by Joe Ledley on the half-hour mark. The 2-1 loss at Hampden means that a Celtic treble will not be achieved this season.  Commons said: "In the back of our mind we wanted a clean sheet and we thought we had the squad to do that. We have let down ourselves, the fans, the coaching staff and especially Neil (Lennon). There was six or seven lads who didn't turn up. I don't think we did enough to win the game or lose it. There were some okay performances, a few of us didn't play to our abilities and we switched off certainly for the second goal. In the build-up we felt confident and sharp but today there was no evidence of that."  Commons admitted that Rangers had raised their game for the SFL showcase final, but remained confident of securing the SPL title. He went on: "We gave Rangers a lot of respect, they are a good side and they had players who played out of their skin today. We created a few half chances, Scott Brown had a header which could have gone in the back of the net and Gary Hooper had a shot which could have gone in the roof of the net. So it is a fine line. If we concentrate on our job and do what we can do best in winning matches then I think we will win the league. But I think a lot of people need to take this in and reflect on this game and try to use this as momentum to kick on."
