Commons undergoing treatment

Celtic coach Alan Thompson wants Kris Commons to withdraw from the Scotland squad for Wednesday's friendly against Denmark at Hampden.[LNB] Commons turned up at the Scots' hotel on the outskirts of Glasgow on Monday morning with a foot injury sustained in Sunday's SPL win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie and then returned to Lennoxtown for treatment.[LNB]Commons has not ruled himself out and will report back to Craig Levein on Tuesday but Thompson does not believe the game merits taking any chances.[LNB]"I think the important word is friendly," he said. "Had it been a qualifier for Scotland then it puts a different slant on it.[LNB]"But with it being a friendly, we would much prefer him to be rested and try to get him right for the weekend, which will be touch and go, I would think."[LNB]Celtic are still coming to terms with the injury to defender Emilio Izaguirre, who broke his ankle at Pittodrie.[LNB]The Honduran left-back, 25, was taken off early in the first half after a challenge from Dons winger Peter Pawlett.[LNB]A statement on Celtic's website claimed that Izaguirre could be out for up to six months but Thompson was not so pessimistic.[LNB]At Celtic Park where he was helping publicise Tuesday night's Celtic legends versus Manchester United legends match in aid of an East African charity, he said: "Emilio came back to Glasgow after the game, he is at home and they are waiting on the final tests to see what needs doing.[LNB]"We are still waiting on the timescale. That will probably depend on the surgery and how it is when they open him up.[LNB]"Even if it is a short-term injury it is a blow but it is looking like it is going to be mid to long-term.[LNB]"Initially we didn't think much of it but we watched the DVD afterwards and you can see it is clearly a bad one.[LNB]"But it was a perfectly good tackle from the boy, there was no malice and no intent."[LNB]Asked if a replacement left-back would be targeted, the Englishman replied: "It is something that we have to look at.[LNB]"We have Charlie Mulgrew, obviously, who is more than capable but if anything happens to Charlie we are a little bit bare."[LNB]Thompson was joined by former Celtic and Manchester United striker Dion Dublin who suffered from several injuries during his career, including a leg break.[LNB]The former England player insists Izaguirre will just want to be left alone to come to terms with his injury.[LNB]He said on Monday: "I heard Alan said that he (Izaguirre) is going to get some visitors today but the last thing you want is visitors.[LNB]"You don't want anyone around you, you want to take in what's happened and get it over yourself first of all.[LNB]"He will be in pain, mentally as well as physically and he will not want to explain that to people time after time after time.[LNB]"Having been there I would suggest to leave him for four or five days."[LNB]Dublin, who played for Celtic under Gordon Strachan in 2006, is looking forward to playing in front of the Hoops fans again.[LNB]He said: "I am looking forward to the noise and atmosphere as much as anything else."
