Derby winger Kris Commons moved closer to joining Celtic on Thursday after arriving in Glasgow to undergo a medical.
The Scotland international was being put through his medical at Ross Hall Hospital on Thursday afternoon after Derby accepted a bid from the Clydesdale Bank Premier League leaders.
Celtic submitted an offer on Wednesday believed to be in the region of £300,000 to move ahead of Rangers in the running to land the 27-year-old.
Rangers manager Walter Smith had confirmed his interest in the player on Tuesday amid talks between his club and the Rams, but the debt-hit Ibrox club lack the financial muscle to compete with their Old Firm rivals.
Commons is out of contract at Pride Park in the summer and had failed to sign a new deal despite lengthy negotiations.
He is now poised to join former Nottingham Forest team-mate Neil Lennon's squad ahead of the transfer deadline.
