CL deadline for Celtic signing

Thursday night's deadline for the receipt of squads for the third qualifying round passed without any official announcement over the proposed move for the Coventry left-back. But clubs are able to change one player in their squad on the day before the first leg of the qualifier. Celtic are reported to have had a bid of around £1.5million accepted by the Sky Blues and now have several days to complete the signing in time for the 23-year-old to make a dramatic debut against the Russians at Parkhead. Coventry rejected several offers for Fox earlier this month with Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies heavily linked with an interest. But Fox, who was named in the Championship team of the season, told the Coventry Evening Telegraph that "if something is going to happen I think it will be a phone call and I will be on my way". Neither club confirmed the deal on Friday morning but it appears new Hoops manager Tony Mowbray has moved quickly to tackle what has been a problem position for the club recently. Lee Naylor has struggled to recapture the form he showed in the first season following his move from Wolves in August 2006, while Mark Wilson has been dogged by injuries. Fox came through the youth ranks at Everton before moving to Walsall, from where he was signed by Coventry in January 2008. Meanwhile, Mowbray has not given up hope of Scott Brown returning from ankle surgery in time for the home leg against the Russian side. Although Brown has targeted the return leg a week later as his likely comeback date, Mowbray said: "I would think he's got more than half a chance of being okay for the second leg, but I haven't ruled out the first leg, either. "He's back on the training ground, running, twisting and kicking. He's playing in our two-v-twos and it's great to see. "I would suggest if it was the last game of the season, like a cup final, we'd play him. "It's weighing up the potential consequences of playing him and then being out for a longer spell. "For the sake of giving him another week, I think we might not play him - but I haven't ruled him out. "We could also tactically play him in a position which wasn't overly demanding of him because, psychologically, having Scott Brown in our team would give us a lift."
