Cervi upbeat despite frustration

Goalkeeper Dominic Cervi has been frustrated by his lack of match action at Celtic but has taken confidence from his call up to the United States squad.

The 24-year-old is still to make a competitive first-team appearance since moving to Parkhead in the summer of 2009, with Fraser Forster in possession of the number one jersey and Lukasz Zaluska on the bench.

But Cervi hopes his commitment in training will soon be recognised by the Bhoys, and told the Celtic View: "It's frustrating because I'm in every day working hard and I know you can't just walk straight into the Celtic team, but at the same time you want games and you don't want to be sitting on the bench."

He added: "I'm coming in every day and I've been keeping my head down and working hard.

"You don't know if anyone's noticing and then all of a sudden this (international call up) comes along and it's really gratifying.

"I had no idea I was even on their radar so now that I know I am it has raised my confidence a little bit.

"It was a huge compliment and it's nice to know the hard work isn't going unnoticed.

"I try to keep plugging away and hopefully this is the start of good things for me."
