Celtic history lured Hinkel

New signing Andreas Hinkel claims Celtic's rich history persuaded him to join Gordon Strachan's side.

The 25-year-old Germany international joined the Bhoys on a three-and-a-half year contract from Sevilla last week and is relishing the prospect of representing the Glasgow club.

"This is the perfect club for me and I'm sure being at Celtic will help me become a better player. Overall, it was the best decision for me," Hinkel told the club's official website.

"Having played against Celtic in European competition with Stuttgart five years ago, I'm well aware of the magnificent stadium and wonderful passionate support the club enjoys.

"Celtic are a great club with a great history, having achieved such success at home and in Europe.

"It's a great honour to join the club and I hope to play an important part in the club's future over the next few years.

"Everyone in the world knows about Celtic. The green and white strip is known everywhere and this is a very famous club.

"Celtic were the first British club to win the European Cup and I know the history and tradition is very important."
