Celtic grab late win over Hibs
17 Apr 2010 - 17:14:59
Celtic claimed a last-gasp 3-2 win over Hibs on Saturday afternoon to keep their slim Scottish Premier League title chances alive for now.
The Bhoys made a dream start to proceedings with on -ong hitman Robbie Keane opening the scoring inside four minutes.
But the visitors restored parity soon after as Derek Riordan notched in an entertaining opening six minutes and it was the Edinburgh side who went into the lead just after the interval.
Josh Thompson fouled Anthony Stokes and he picked himself up to score the resulting spot-kick, grabbing his 19th league goal of a fruitful campaign.
However, Hibs couldn't hold out as the Glasgow giants equalised with ten minutes remaining.
Marc-Antoine Fortune fired home from close-range to set up a frantic finale and it was Morten Rasmussen who was the hero of the hour as he netted from six yards with just three minutes to spare in front of just 29,650 fans at Celtic Park.
The win moves Celtic to within eight points of fierce rivals and league leaders Rangers.
Aberdeen collected a much-needed three points with a narrow 1-0 success over rock-bottom Falkirk.
On-loan Plymouth forward Steven MacLean scored the only goal of the afternoon on 11 minutes at Pittrodrie, as he finished off Davide Grassi's flick on to relieve the pressure on beleaguered boss Mark McGhee.
St Mirren's hopes of survival suffered a knock as they threw a two-goal lead away to draw 2-2 at St Johnstone.
Graham Carey opened the scoring at McDiarmid Park before Andy Dorman doubled their advantage at the start of the second half.
But a Michael Duberry effort halved the deficit and a last-gasp Paul Sheerin penalty was enough to see the points shared.
Hamilton put on a fine second-half performance to land a 3-0 win over struggling Kilmarnock at New Douglas Park.
Their goals came in the final 20 minutes with Dougie Imrie, Flavio Paixao and Joel Thomas on the scoresheet to all but ensure their SPL status for another season.
