Celtic handed Ross County test

Neil Lennon gets the chance to avenge arguably the worst day of his managerial career when he takes his Celtic side to Ross County in the third round of the Scottish Communities League Cup.

The Irishman was caretaker boss at Parkhead in April 2010, when the Highlanders sensationally knocked the Hoops out of the Scottish Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 win at Hampden.

Holders Rangers visit First Division Falkirk while in the two all-SPL ties, Motherwell host Hibernian and St Mirren travel to St Johnstone.

The draw produced tricky ties for other SPL clubs. Kilmarnock take on Queen of the South, Hearts travel to Ayr United, Aberdeen host East Fife and Airdrie United welcome Dundee United.

The ties will be played on September 20 or 21.

The draw for the third round of the Scottish Communities League Cup:

St Johnstone v St Mirren, Ross County v Celtic, Kilmarnock v Queen of the South, Falkirk v Rangers, Motherwell v Hibernian, Ayr United v Hearts, Aberdeen v East Fife, Airdrie United v Dundee United.
