Celtic fans hopeful over Lennon

Celtic fans hope Neil Lennon's attendance at a series of question and answer sessions throughout the summer is a sign the interim manager is set to land the job on a permanent basis.

The Hoops have yet to confirm whether Lennon will remain at the helm after formally launching their search for Tony Mowbray's successor immediately after the final game of the season. Lennon is now set to be quizzed by supporters - along with chief executive Peter Lawwell - with the first event set to take place at Parkhead on May 27.

A statement on the Celtic Trust website read: "The announcement that Peter Lawwell and Neil Lennon are to respond to the Celtic Trust proposal and go on the road in a series of 'open meetings' with the fans is to be welcomed."

The statement continued: "It would seem strange in the extreme to organise the first of these meetings with Lennon in attendance and then appoint someone else.

"Hopefully this is an indication that the decision to appoint Lenny has already been taken in principle and that the delay in announcing the appointment is caused by the need to put in place certain other contingencies.

"If and when the appointment is announced the new manager needs to know that the quid pro quo is that he has our support for the whole of next season and that those of us who have consistently argued for his appointment will not be found wanting."

The former skipper enjoyed a successful spell in charge when he claimed eight wins out of eight in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League, with the Active Nation Scottish Cup exit to Ross County the only stain on his record.

Lennon said: "I know the club has made it a priority in recent years to engage with our fans and this is always something I would support and encourage.

"The club realises how important the fans are and we know that it is always important to hear their views. It will be great to meet up with the supporters and I look forward to doing this."
