Caldwell can't wait for SPL climax

The Scotland defender returns from the World Cup qualifying double-header against Holland and Iceland a reasonably happy man after a 3-0 defeat in the Amsterdam ArenA last Saturday was followed by a 2-1 win at Hampden on Wednesday night, which kept his side's hopes of reaching South Africa next summer alive. George Burley's side moved into second place in Group Nine behind runaway leaders Holland but do not play again until August when they face Norway in Oslo. However, an exhausting season for Caldwell continues at Parkhead as Gordon Strachan's side try to stretch their lead over Rangers in the Scottish Premier League to six points before the Ibrox men play at Falkirk the following day. Caldwell, 26, joked that he is simply swapping one type of pressure for another as he resumes his bid to win his fourth SPL winners' medal in succession. He said: "I'm going back to the stress of playing with Celtic but I'm looking forward to it. "It's the time of the season where every game is important and anything dropped is going to be vital, so you have to be on your game. "There are nine games to go, nine big games but we know that if we win them then we are champions again. "You treat a game against Hamilton the same as you would an international game. "It is physically demanding. You rest, recuperate and, come Saturday, we will be raring to go again." Caldwell will be partnered at Parkhead by Stephen McManus, who recovered from an ankle injury to captain Scotland on Wednesday night only to pick up a swollen cheekbone, a black eye and an open cut on his left eyebrow. McManus is confident he will be available for the visit of Accies. He said: "It's not any different from getting a cut anywhere else on your body, and there's no way that I won't be fit for Saturday. "It probably looks worse than what it is. It doesn't feel too bad and I was just glad to play a part in a big result. "I have had no reaction from my ankle and in terms of fitness, everything seems absolutely fine." Scotland Qualify for 2010 World Cup. Click here to bet.
