Calderwood keen to keep hold of Kyle

The Killie boss was unhappy when the former Sunderland player failed to inform him that he had left the country to play in a trial match for Russian club Spartak Nalchik where he suffered a groin strain which kept him out of the Ayrshire side's defeat at Hibernian on Saturday.[LNB]Kyle will also miss the visit of Rangers on Tuesday night but Calderwood said that the disappointment of last week is over - and he has asked Rugby Park chairman Michael Johnston to extend Kyle's current contract which ends in the summer.[LNB]"Kyle had been given permission to go but I was annoyed at him for not letting me know he was away," Calderwood said.[LNB]"He could have sent me a text message or something but I have cleared the air with him.[LNB]"He is at hospital this morning and we will see how the damage is but we expect him to be okay for Saturday.[LNB]"But I talked to the chairman and told him that I think he should go and talk to Kevin and offer him a new contract and I think that's what they are going to do.[LNB]"I like Kevin, he is looking a lot fitter and in the last few weeks he was coming to form and most teams in Scotland would love to have that Kevin.[LNB]"I have spoken to him and I think it was a bit of a shock to him going over there.[LNB]"He told me that he realises what he has in Scotland and what he had in England and so I don't think abroad is for him.[LNB]"So it is up to the chairman to sort out the finances but I don't think Kevin is against staying at Kilmarnock, definitely not, especially if we can get players in that we want to get in.[LNB]"It is not always about money but it is easy for me to say that.[LNB]"He has to look after himself and his family but happiness is a big thing in football and in life."[LNB]Calderwood welcomes Rangers to Rugby Park in the Scottish Premier League and then Celtic in the Active Nation Scottish Cup on Saturday and the former Aberdeen and Dunfermline boss wants to make history by beating them both in the same week.[LNB]"It is a wonderful week to look forward to," Calderwood said.[LNB]"You can make history because it's not often you can beat the two of them in the one week.[LNB]"We are under no illusions how difficult beating Rangers will be but you can always dream.[LNB]"It's fabulous going to Ibrox and Parkhead but it's always better having them at your park.[LNB]"We beat Celtic at home in the SPL recently and we rode our luck at times but we have nothing to lose in these games."[LNB][LNB]
