Celtic boss Gordon Strachan is planning a January move for Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham, according to press reports.
A combination of losing his first-team place and the slow progress of negotiations about a new contract has left Beckham unsettled.
Real are thought to be prepared to consider selling the former England captain in January and, having been told he will be given money to strengthen his squad, Strachan intends to be at the front of the queue.
"I have David's telephone number," Strachan told the Sunday Telegraph.
"He is a wonderful player who is still very fit and could play at the highest level for another three years. I know he would not go to another club in England."
Beckham, whose current contract with Madrid is scheduled to expire in June 2007, has been strongly linked with a move to America's Major League Soccer, while Tottenham and Newcastle are both rumoured to be monitoring his situation.
