Sweden international Daniel Majstorovic has joined Celtic on a two-year deal after spending the last two seasons with AEK Athens.

The 33-year-old, who played for his country in last week's friendly victory against Scotland, will join a squad that got off to a winning start at the weekend when they beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1-0.

Majstorovic told the Daily Record at the weekend: "Celtic wanted someone to take control at the back and they see me as a player who can do that.

"The dialogue I've had with the club tells me they've been searching for a player to control things in the defence so it feels great they see me as that man.

"The economic situation was tough (at AEK Athens). There wasn't really any talk that something was about to happen but, when this came up, it was a solution which suited both parties."

Meanwhile, recent signing Gary Hooper, who sustained a tear in his left calf against Blackburn Rovers, could be sidelined until the end of September.
