Bhoys edge to Well victory
12 Dec 2009 - 17:09:17
Celtic remain top of the SPL table after a hard-fought 3-2 victory at Motherwell, which was sealed by a late Marc-Antoine Fortune strike.
Fortune fired home from 25 yards with 11 minutes left to play at Fir Park, with the game locked at 2-2 after home keeper John Ruddy had saved a Barry Robson penalty.
Earlier on Georgios Samaras fired the visitors ahead, before Lukas Jutkiewicz and Mark Reynolds gave the Steelmen a half-time lead, which was cancelled out seven minutes after the restart by Aiden McGeady.
Rangers eased to a 3-0 win over St Johnstone at Ibrox, with leading scorer Kris Boyd netting twice in the opening 27 minutes, before Nacho Novo added a third ten minutes after half-time.
Hibernian were held to a 1-1 draw at Kilmarnock and dropped two points behind the second-placed Gers, with Anthony Stokes cancelling out Mark Burchill's opener for the home side at Rugby Park.
Dundee United and Hearts played out a goalless draw at Tannadice, with the Terrors staying in fourth place in the table.
Hamilton Academical eased their position near the wrong end of the table with a 2-1 victory at Aberdeen, with Mickael Antoine-Curier and James Wesolowski the scorers for Billy Reid's side.
Gary McDonald equalised for the Dons 15 minutes from time, but Wesolowski struck the decisive blow five minutes later at Pittodrie.
Basement side Falkirk rescued a point from a 1-1 draw at St Mirren thanks to a Carl Finnigan goal two minutes from time, after former Bairns striker Michael Higdon had given the home side the lead shortly after half-time.
