Bhoys close on Verkhovtsov

Celtic are poised to bolster their squad with the signing of Belarus international defender Dimitry Verkhovtsov.

The 23-year-old currently plays for Naftan Novopolotsk in his homeland, but will be allowed to leave for a fee believed to be in the region of £500,000.

Verkhovtsov told the Scottish Sun: "I want to play for Celtic and I believe I can make a difference.

"This is the chance of my life and I want to sign for Celtic as quickly as possible."

Bhoys boss Tony Mowbray had earlier to name names when asked about possible new arrivals, commenting: "I don't think it is appropriate to talk about individual players.

"I'm not sure how those names come around. I have never heard of some of them, some we are very aware of and some I know are not possible.

"What we hope to do in January is to add players to help the squad and to help the existing players and not necessarily replace them."
