Bhoys close in on Tamas

Romania international Gabriel Tamas is on the verge of completing his transfer from Auxerre to Celtic.

The 24-year-old defender, who started all three of his country's games at Euro 2008, will move to Celtic Park in a £3.5million deal.

Auxerre boss Jean Fernandez said: "I expected to see Gabriel back at training after he was given an extended break following his hectic summer with Romania.

"But I got a call from his agent to confirm he was on his way to Glasgow to talk with Celtic.

"If a deal goes through I'll be delighted for Gabriel. He's a big, big player with huge ambitions in the game and Celtic are the right club to match them."

Meanwhile, Bobo Balde has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.
