Bhoys boosted by McGeady news

The winger sustained a knock to his ankle during Wednesday's 4-0 Co-operative Insurance Cup win at Falkirk and was forced to hobble from the field. Initial reports suggested the Republic of Ireland international could be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines. However, Mowbray has moved to ease those worries by revealing that McGeady's state of health has improved 'significantly' in the last 48 hours. He accepts that the 23-year-old will play no part in Saturday's SPL clash with St Mirren, but is optimistic that he will return in time for Thursday's Europa League date with Rapid Veinna and Sunday's Old Firm derby against Rangers. "Aiden won't travel tomorrow," Mowbray said. "But the news is more positive than we first thought. He has improved significantly, but we don't want to put him in and take any unnecessary risks. "The news is more encouraging than we thought it might have been at the end of Wednesday's game. "We'll wait and see. At this moment there is no definitive decision on whether he'll pull the boots on in the next day or two, but he is feeling better and the last few days have been encouraging." The full severity of McGeady's injury is yet to be determined, but Mowbray is confident the winger has suffered no long-term damage. "There are lots of degrees of ligament damage," he said. "You get bruised ligaments, strained ligaments and torn ligaments. We'll say it's a knock on the ankle and hopefully it's only going to be a few days."
