Award joy for Brown and Strachan

Scotland midfielder Brown saw off competition from Bhoys team-mate Gary Caldwell and Rangers pair Pedro Mendes and Steven Davis to land the prize for the first time. Brown, 23, was recognised for a series of dynamic displays that have helped propel Celtic to the top of the Scottish Premier League table and win the Co-operative Insurance Cup. The Hoops completed an awards double when boss Strachan landed the Manager of the Year prize for the second time. Strachan, who won the inaugural gong in 2007, beat last year's winner Billy Reid of Hamilton and Derek McInnes, who on Saturday led St Johnstone to the Irn-Bru First Division crown. The Young Player of the Year award went to Hamilton's teenage winger James McCarthy, who has taken the SPL by storm in his debut season. The 18-year-old had been nominated alongside team-mate James McArthur, Hearts winger Andrew Driver and Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher. After missing out on the main award, Mendes had the consolation of picking up the Goal of the Season prize for his stunning long-range strike in Rangers' 4-2 Old Firm derby win at Parkhead in August. PFA Scotland Award Winners: SPL Player of the Year: Scott Brown (Celtic). Young Player of the Year: James McCarthy (Hamilton). First Division Player of the Year: Leigh Griffiths (Livingston).
