Catania extend Zenga stay

Catania have handed coach Walter Zenga a contract extension to keep him at the club until the end of the 2009-10 season.

The 48-year-old former Italy goalkeeper helped the club escape relegation from Serie A last season, having only taken charge at the Stadio Massimino in April.

Zenga had previously made his name in coaching outside Italy, enjoying spells in charge of National Bucharest, Steaua Bucharest, Red Star Belgrade and Dinamo Bucharest, as well as several other clubs.

Catania president Antonio Pulvirenti told La Gazzetta Dello Sport: "We can see the same objectives and it was simple to reach an agreement.

"Zenga has achieved important results and, most importantly he has joined our long-term project. We want to grow together."
