Carlisle United boss John Ward is delighted to have persuaded Paul Reid to return to his hometown club.
The 26-year-old defender moves to Brunton Park on loan from Barnsley until the end of the season.
Ward told the club's official website: "He's a decent player but, just as importantly, we know that we've got ourselves the right kind of person as well.
"He needs a bit of football, and we're prepared to help him out with that. He understands that the team's going well, and that he may have to be patient, but he's prepared to accept that."
Reid started his career with Carlisle, making 22 first-team appearances for the club in the 1999-2000 campaign before signing for Rangers.
