Vernon turns Abbott down

Greg Abbott's attempt to bring Colchester United striker Scott Vernon to Carlisle United have failed.

Abbott had been hoping to initiate a swap deal that would have seen goalkeeper Ben Williams move in the opposite direction.

He told the club's official website: "Scott's decided that he wants to stay with Colchester at the moment, so he won't be coming up here to join us.

"He's told his people down there that he wants to try and fight for his place. He hadn't initially asked for a transfer, so he feels that he wants to stay there at this moment in time."
