Thirlwell to sign Carlisle deal

Carlisle United captain Paul Thirlwell is close to signing a new deal that will extend his two-year stay at the club.

Thirlwell arrived at Brunton Park in January 2007 and is out of contract at the end of the current season.

"We're close," the midfielder told the News and Star. "The gaffer wants to get a lot of the lads who are out of contract tied up during the transfer window, so he knows what he has and hasn't got."

The 29-year-old also claimed that most of his team-mates are set to stay with the club.

"Speaking to the lads, everyone wants to stay, everyone is doing well and, if they can get themselves sorted I'm sure they'll be more than happy to sign on the dotted line," he added.
