Taiwo seals Cumbrians loan

Carlisle United have signed Chelsea midfielder Tom Taiwo on a six-month loan deal.

The 19-year-old has yet to break into the first-team picture at Stamford Bridge and spent a month on loan at Port Vale at the start of last season.

Cumbrians boss Greg Abbott told the News & Star: "We needed a younger one with a bit of pace and Tom certainly has that.

"I worked with him at Leeds when he was 15 and 16 and the club thought the world of him. The fact that Chelsea ended up paying a lot of money to get him shows that.

"He has played for England's Under-18s and 19s, but it is hard to get through Chelsea's group of special players and get towards their first team.

"They actually contacted me and asked if I would take him."
