Carlisle United player-manager Paul Simpson has snapped up former Walsall and Sheffield Wednesday left-back Zigor Aranalde on a two-year deal.

The 32-year-old was released by Owls boss Paul Sturrock at the end of last season after spending just two months at Hillsborough.

He signed for Walsall from Logrones five years ago and played almost 200 League games for the Saddlers.

"I'm delighted to sign him," Simpson told the club's official website.

"It's a very difficult position to fill and he's a quality player. He's had four good years with Walsall and I'm sure he'll be effective for us as well."
