Rovers reject Garner approach

Carlisle United have been thwarted in their attempts to sign loan star Joe Garner on a permanent basis from Blackburn Rovers.

The 18-year-old striker has scored three times in ten appearances for the Cumbrians, but Rovers are unwilling to part with the promising youngster just yet.

Carlisle boss Neil McDonald told the News & Star: "I enquired but it has come back from Blackburn that they do not want to sell Joe at the minute.

"He has only just signed a new contract there and they want to keep hold of him while he is developing.

"We could try to secure him on a longer loan next season, but that is a long way off yet.

"If he stays in our team until the end of the season and keeps scoring goals, they might want to hang on to him themselves next season."
