Carlisle United winger Lewis Neal has admitted that the players let the fans down during the weekend defeat at Southend United.
The Roots Hall loss left the Cumbrians only three points above the relegation zone, although Neal is confident the club will not finish in the bottom four.
He told the News & Star: "From what I can see in the dressing room, we don't have the type of lads who don't care about what happens with the club.
"If you'd seen the dressing room after the game and the bus journey on the way home, you could see there's a group of players who do care and want to do well for the club.
"The players were devastated as it just wasn't good enough. The lads were very, very disappointed with the performance on Saturday as we let everybody involved with the club down, especially ourselves.
"But we're still in a strong position to get ourselves out of where we are as it's all in our own hands. As long as we show everyone that we're willing to run around and work hard, I'm sure fans will get behind us and give us the support we need."
