Murphy boost for Cumbrians

Carlisle United have been boosted by the news that defender Peter Murphy will be back in action in a matter of weeks after a scan revealed no serious damage to his ankle.

The 26-year-old, who signed a new two-year contract with the Cumbrians in the summer, was injured on the opening day of the new season at Walsall and it had been feared that he could be sidelined for several months.

Physio Neil Dalton told the club's official website: "The scan results are really encouraging and we're all very pleased about that.

"We can now continue with his rehab programme and we should have him back to full fitness in two to three weeks time."
