McDonald moves on

04 Sep 2006 - 08:43:01

Carlisle United boss Neil McDonald felt his squad coped well with the loss of striker Michael Bridges, as they put on an excellent performance to defeat Cheltenham 2-0.

Bridges quit Brunton Park to join Championship side Hull City for £325,000, but he was barely missed as Kevin Gall and Karl Hawley scored the goals in the first half to lift the Cumbrians up to fifth in League One.

He told BBC Radio Cumbria: "I don't think we've had a troubled week, I think we've had a very, very good week, we've worked hard on Cheltenham's weaknesses and we've worked very, very hard on Cheltenham's strengths and I think we've come on top on both.

"I've asked players to give 100 per cent and that they want to fight for the cause, and that is all I want at the football club, to fight for the cause.

"I think there always going to be a hangover, but I don't want to talk about people who don't want to be at the football club, he (Michael Bridges) plays for somebody else now.

"I want to just concentrate on the eleven or twelve and the back-up players that are at this football club."
