McDonald joins Red Imps

Former Carlisle United manager Neil McDonald has been appointed as Peter Jackson's assistant at League Two strugglers Lincoln City. The 42-year-old was axed by the Cumbrians after just one game of this season when the club's board "lost confidence" in him. McDonald was appointed as Carlisle manager in June 2006 following Paul Simpson's departure to Preston North End, and led the club to an eighth-placed finish in League One last season. He was recently coaching Swedish side Ostersunds FK, but is now set to start a new chapter in his career at Sincil Bank.
