Carlisle United manager Neil McDonald has attempted to improve his stuttering side's fortunes by snapping up the Stoke City midfielder Kevin Harper on a month's loan.
The 30-year-old former Hibernian and Portsmouth player has started only one match for Tony Pulis' side this term but has gone straight in to McDonald's squad for Saturday's League One clash against Tranmere Rovers.
Harper has made almost 300 League appearances in a 14-year professional career and has twice been the subject of £300,000 transfers.
After making a bright start to the season, Carlisle are currently in mid-table after losing their last three matches - conceding nine goals in the process.
Meanwhile, teenage striker Pete Ferris has joined Conference North side Workington on a month's loan.
