Carlisle United striker Joe Garner may not play again this season after a scan showed he had damaged his anterior cruciate ligament.
The teenager, who has scored 19 goals in his 12 months with the club, was referred to a knee specialist after sustaining the problem in Tuesday's League One clash with Crewe Alexandra.
Club physio Neil Dalton told United's official website: "The results show that the twist did cause some damage to the ACL, so we'll refer him to our surgeon in Bingley for further advice.
"He'll then decide whether the knee needs an operation or if some other form of rehabilitation will be more appropriate.
"We can't really comment any further on the injury until the surgeon has completed his examination."
